Everyone is talking about sustainability, and organizations are creating sustainability programs. But what does green chemistry really mean, and how does it apply to gas chromatography?
CIL-UHPLC–HRMS Profiles Carbonyl Compounds in Baijiu Daqu Samples
July 27th 2023Sauce-flavor or sauce-aroma baijiu, one variant of a popular Chinese liquor, is treated with a fermentation starter called daqu, giving the concoction a unique taste profile, and scientists want more information about how it can inform the manufacturing of higher-quality baijiu.
LC×LC With UV Detection and 3D Contour Plot Differentiates Ginseng in Two Types of Chinese Medicine
July 13th 2023Authentication of popular ginseng-based products has been difficult and has caused confusion in quality control between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Chinese patent medicine (CPM).
Successful Analysis of Protein Biopharmaceuticals Using Ultra-Short Columns
June 20th 2023Davy Guillarme of the University of Geneva said in a talk at HPLC 2023 that short columns have shown promise, but ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) instrumentation is not yet optimized to realize their benefits.
UHPLC–MS/MS Quantifies Ultraviolet Filter Compounds in Chlorinated Canadian Waters
June 16th 2023An ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method (UHPLC–MS/MS) using polarity switching, preceded by solid-phase extraction (SPE), was used to quantify eight ultraviolet filter (UVF) compounds in chlorinated outdoor pools in Winnipeg.
An LC–MS/MS Method for the Evaluation of Intestinal Permeability in Blood Plasma
May 1st 2023A rapid and robust LC–MS/MS method for determining lactulose and rhamnose concentrations in blood plasma was used to determine intestinal permeability from blood plasma, which can help diagnose gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s disease.
LCE and LCA: Suspect Screening of Lupin-Produced Phytotoxins in Environmental Samples
April 30th 2023Selective pressurized liquid extraction and multilayer solid‑phase extraction methods are described for high‑throughput plant, soil, and water sample preparations. Optimal analytical conditions are described for the improvement of detection sensitivities and coverage. A Source Supported Suspect Screening (4S) approach is described; phytotoxins detected in the source plant were used to improve the identification of phytotoxins in soil and water.
