Arsenic Speciation Using Hamilton PRP-X100
June 1st 2019Organic arsenic compounds added to feed stocks of chicken and poultry pose serious environmental and ecological threats. National and worldwide health organizations, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, have recently implemented more stringent concentration limits for arsenic species in drinking water and foodstuffs.
The Shodex Rapid SUGAR Series: Fast Fermentation Monitoring and Sourdough Cultures
June 1st 2019Living organisms (yeast and bacteria) were not identified as the agents that produced or spoiled common food items until the 19th century. Baking, especially of bread, was among the first industries to be transformed by the emerging scientific understanding of fermentation. The introduction of commercialized yeast in the early 20th century steadily reduced the time needed to bake bread both at home and on the production line, making way for modern packaged breads.
Kinase Fragments Dimerize Without Oligomerization Domains, by SEC-MALS
June 1st 2019Determination of oligomeric states is an important issue in protein chemistry. For example, self-assembly via oligomerization domains is crucial for the regulation of several protein kinases. Determination of the oligomeric state of fragments of these kinases is a means of verifying the involvement of each domain in self-assembly.
Automated SPE to Improve the Recovery of Semivolatile Compounds in Compliance with EPA Method 8270
February 1st 2019This applicate note presents the use of an automated solid-phase extraction (SPE) system to improve the accuracy and precision of semivolatile extractions, in compliance with EPA Method 8270.
Separation of Five Steroids on a Hamilton PRP-C18 Reversed-Phase HPLC Column
February 1st 2019In this study, a reversed-phase HPLC method was developed for separation of five steroid hormones with partition coefficients ranging from 1.47 (cortisone) to 4.5 (pregnenolone) on a Hamilton PRP-C18 HPLC column.
Characterization of TSKgel FcR-IIIA-NPR HPLC Column by Top Down Mass Spectrometry
February 1st 2019The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the use of mass spectrometry to characterize the elution profile of a typical IgG1 molecule separation on a TSKgel FcR-IIIA-NPR column, and verify the observations that certain glycan structures impart higher activity to the monoclonal antibody, especially as it relates to the presence of terminal galactose sugars.
A Rapid, Simple, and Efficient Extraction Method for Additives in Plastics
January 10th 2019Plastics play a role in just about every market sector and research area including agriculture, food, packaging, pharmaceuticals, medical implants, and personal care products, making the potential leaching of additives like antioxidants or slip additives a major concern. In this article learn how the EDGE is able to extract additives from plastics in a fraction of the time of traditional techniques.
Analysis of Fentanyl and Its Analogues in Human Urine by LC–MS/MS
December 1st 2018Abuse of synthetic opioid prescription painkillers such as fentanyl, along with a rapidly growing list of illicit analogues, is a significant public health problem. In this study, we developed a simple dilute-and-shoot method that provides a fast 3.5-min analysis of fentanyl and related compounds (norfentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, alfentanil, butyryl fentanyl, carfentanil, remifentanil, and sufentanil) in human urine by LC–MS/MS using a Raptor Biphenyl column.
