Biotage expanded its product offering to include IST sample preparation products for analytical chemistry applications in June 2005. Biotage needed to inform customers that we were now the company to contact for IST sample preparation products. We chose LCGC North America to help us reach the analytical chemistry market, and our recognition continues to grow with their support.
International Sorbent Technologies (IST) has been a leading brand of sample preparation products for over 10 years. With a range of high-quality non-polar, mixed-mode, and ion exchange sorbents, IST sample preparation products are widely used by analytical chemist in pharmaceutical, environmental, clinical, food, and forensic applications.
The original research, published by the Swedish National Food Administration and University of Stockholm, was performed using Biotage SPE columns.
The discovery of acrylamide in foods is of concern since it is a potential human carcinogen. In April 2002, researchers at the Swedish National Food Administration and Stockholm University reported finding high levels of acrylamide in a variety of cooked foods. Their initial results indicated that acrylamide formation is particularly associated with traditional high temperature cooking processes for certain carbohydrate-rich foods.
Since the Swedish report, similar findings have been reported by numerous other countries, including Norway, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Switzerland. Analysis of a wide variety of foods by the FDA revealed United States results to be in basic agreement with these findings.
Our sample preparation products are advanced water-wettable polymer-based sorbents for extracting drugs from biological fluids. The products provide a highly effective solution to the problems of ion suppression and matrix effects from dirty extracts. These high performance products allow scientists to use generic methodologies to reduce method development time while producing clean extracts for a wide range of compounds.
In the IST tradition, Biotage continues to develop new sample preparation products that deliver cleaner extracts and better analytical performance.

Best of the Week: Food Analysis, Chemical Migration in Plastic Bottles, STEM Researcher of the Year
December 20th 2024Top articles published this week include the launch of our “From Lab to Table” content series, a Q&A interview about using liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC–HRMS) to assess chemical hazards in plastic bottles, and a piece recognizing Brett Paull for being named Tasmanian STEM Researcher of the Year.
Using LC-MS/MS to Measure Testosterone in Dried Blood Spots
December 19th 2024Testosterone measurements are typically performed using serum or plasma, but this presents several logistical challenges, especially for sample collection, storage, and transport. In a recently published article, Yehudah Gruenstein of the University of Miami explored key insights gained from dried blood spot assay validation for testosterone measurement.
Determination of Pharmaceuticals by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS (Dec 2024)
December 19th 2024This application note demonstrates the use of a compact portable capillary liquid chromatograph, the Axcend Focus LC, coupled to an Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical drugs in model aqueous samples.
