FACSS, the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies, will hold this year's annual conference from 14–18 October, at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It will cover analytical chemistry with an emphasis on spectroscopy. Bringing together leading scientists across many disciplines for scientific exchange, the exhibition also provides a variety of informal networking opportunities.
The Federation was founded to combine smaller meetings into an annual meeting and the FACSS conference was established as the National Meeting for the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.
Each day will start with plenary presentations given either by internationally recognized speakers or annual award recipients, these will then be followed by eight concurrent sessions within each half-day period and each of those sessions is composed of poster and oral presentations. Prizes are awarded daily for outstanding poster presentations. Original research papers are presented at the conference from all areas of analytical chemistry and spectroscopy. Symposia topics will include: atomic spectroscopy, chemometrics, forensics, mass spectrometry, nanotechnology, process control, surface plasmon, bioanalytical, fluorescence, imaging science, molecular spectroscopy and pharmaceutical. Affiliate organizations of FACSS are ACS-Analytical Division, ANACHEM, American Society for Mass Spectrometry, Coblentz, ISA, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.

Best of the Week: Food Analysis, Chemical Migration in Plastic Bottles, STEM Researcher of the Year
December 20th 2024Top articles published this week include the launch of our “From Lab to Table” content series, a Q&A interview about using liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC–HRMS) to assess chemical hazards in plastic bottles, and a piece recognizing Brett Paull for being named Tasmanian STEM Researcher of the Year.
Using LC-MS/MS to Measure Testosterone in Dried Blood Spots
December 19th 2024Testosterone measurements are typically performed using serum or plasma, but this presents several logistical challenges, especially for sample collection, storage, and transport. In a recently published article, Yehudah Gruenstein of the University of Miami explored key insights gained from dried blood spot assay validation for testosterone measurement.
Determination of Pharmaceuticals by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS (Dec 2024)
December 19th 2024This application note demonstrates the use of a compact portable capillary liquid chromatograph, the Axcend Focus LC, coupled to an Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical drugs in model aqueous samples.
