Sulphur and Halide Determination by Combustion Ion Chromatography
July 2nd 2010The fully automated combustion ion chromatography (CIC) system presented here combines a highly efficient combustion system with the separation power of ion chromatography (IC). CIC allows for the simultaneous, speciated trace analysis of halide (F, Cl, Br and I) and sulphur compounds (as sulphate) from sub-ppm to percent levels in any nonaqueous sample matrix.
Enhanced Peptide Identification with an Ultra High Resolution Mass Spectrometer
July 2nd 2010Analysis of biological samples frequently involves the identification of peptides from low amounts of complex samples. Confident identification of these peptides requires rapid generation of high quality, high sensitivity MS and MS–MS data. The maXis TOF mass spectrometer incorporates novel technical innovations, which together produce an unprecedented level of data quality, resulting in a significant increase in the number of peptides identified from challenging samples.
Determination of Diethylene Glycol in Sorbitol Solutions Used for Pharmaceutical Formulations
July 2nd 2010Ingestion of DEG-adulterated glycerin excipients in pharmaceuticals and personal care products, such as toothpaste, mouth wash and medicinal syrups has caused systemic alcohol intoxication, acidosis and subsequent multiorgan failure that have led to hundreds of fatalities of children and adults.
High Resolution UHPLC Analysis of Naringin in Grapefruit Juice
July 2nd 2010Grapefruit juice was analysed by gradient UHPLC for naringin - a major flavanoid in grapefruit juice that gives it its bitter taste. A ZORBAX Rapid resolution HD (RRHD) StableBond-C18 2.1 ? 150 mm, 1.8 ?m column was able to resolve over 60 peaks, including naringin in 7 minutes, and was re-equilibrated in just three minutes by operating at a high flow rate (0.8 mL/min). The high pressure generated (965 bar) is well within the 1200 bar operating range of the RRHD column and 1290 Infinity LC.
Quantitative Analysis of the Composition of Tea Tree Oil
July 2nd 2010The analysis of tea tree oil requires a severe quality control due to its potential to induce and elicit skin allergies. Tea tree oil is an essential oil and consists of a large number of constituents. Heart-cut Multidimensional GC–MS is very well suited to analysis of samples of such high complexity.
Rapid Analysis of Pesticides in Difficult Matrices Using GC–MS–MS
July 2nd 2010Pesticides are widely used in agriculture to protect crops and to improve efficiency of production. Consequently, governments, food producers and food retailers have a duty to ensure that any residues occurring in foods for human consumption are at or below statutory maximum residue levels (MRLs). Regulation EC 396/2005 adopted in the European Union sets MRLs for more than 500 different pesticides in over 300 different food commodities.
Faster Analysis of Naproxen Tablets — Improvements on the USP Method
July 2nd 2010The costs associated with pharmaceutical testing are considerable, and many lab managers are seeking ways to reduce costs by reducing solvent usage and improving productivity while still using the LC instruments in their lab.
Light Scattering for the Masses Protein–Protein Interactions
July 2nd 2010Over-expression of recombinant proteins is commonly used for the production of protein reagents in industry and academia. Problems often occur relating to the stress put on the cells to deal with this huge increase in synthesis.
Extend uHPLC µm Column Lifetime with KrudKatcher Ultra In-line Filters
July 2nd 2010For many years, the use of guard columns has been advocated by column manufacturers and other experts to protect and extend column lifetime and performance of analytical columns from potential damage caused by the presence of chemical contaminants and microparticulates in the sample and mobile phase.
Light Scattering for the Masses Effect of Heating on Molecular Weights of Chitosan
July 2nd 2010Heating is a common and essential requirement in most biopharmaceutical production methods. Chitosan is an amino polysaccharide obtained by alkaline deacetylation of naturally abundant chitin.
Identifying Unexpected Environmental Contaminants with High-resolution, Accurate Mass LC–MS–MS
July 2nd 2010This paper describes the use of the AB SCIEX TripleTOF 5600 LC–MS–MS system for the screening and identification of unexpected contaminants in lake water, demonstrating the value of high-resolution, accurate-mass data and retrospective data processing for the identification of nontargeted compounds.
Good Day, Sunshine — High Speed Analysis of UV Absorbers
July 2nd 2010Use of UV filters in cosmetic formulations is regulated by international authorities. The concentration of these compounds in cosmetic products is controlled constantly. The following methods describe a simple, fast and ultra fast LC method for determination of UV absorbers. HALO C18* was used as column.
Rapid Determination of DNPH Derivatized Carbonyl Compounds by UHPLC
July 2nd 2010Carbonyl compounds, in particular aldehydes, are reactive volatile substances. They are of concern to the public, because they are emitted as air pollutants by a large range of industrial processes and other combustion sources.
