The 4th International Symposium on Recent Advances in Food Analysis (RAFA 2009) will be taking place in Prague, Czech Republic, between 4–6 November 2009. The Institute of Chemical Technology, RIKILT - Institute of Food Safety and the International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IAEAC), invite all food scientists to attend and present results of their scientific work, focused on the most recent strategies applied in food analysis.
According to the organizers, the event will have a particular emphasis on advanced analytical and bioanalytical technologies and food analysis applications related to areas including residues and contaminants, authenticity, traceability, fraud, flavours and odours, processing and packaging contaminants and QA/QC and chemometrics in food analysis.
The programme is expected to include high-grade presentations followed by stimulating discussions, several satellite events, as well as an exhibition of modern instrumentation used in food analysis and other necessary equipment, such as consumables, reference materials and bioanalytical tools. Scientific contributions will be presented through invited lectures and contributed oral and poster presentations. Additionally, a platform for young scientists to present their scientific work will be provided, along with an award for the best poster presentation.
There will also be several satellite events including workshops on "Determining the geographical origin of food - trace elements and isotopic patterns in food verification" and "Future challenges in integration of young scientists into the EU research activities" as well as various seminars.

Best of the Week: Food Analysis, Chemical Migration in Plastic Bottles, STEM Researcher of the Year
December 20th 2024Top articles published this week include the launch of our “From Lab to Table” content series, a Q&A interview about using liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC–HRMS) to assess chemical hazards in plastic bottles, and a piece recognizing Brett Paull for being named Tasmanian STEM Researcher of the Year.
Using LC-MS/MS to Measure Testosterone in Dried Blood Spots
December 19th 2024Testosterone measurements are typically performed using serum or plasma, but this presents several logistical challenges, especially for sample collection, storage, and transport. In a recently published article, Yehudah Gruenstein of the University of Miami explored key insights gained from dried blood spot assay validation for testosterone measurement.
