Thermo Fisher Scientific (Massachusetts, USA) has opened a new life sciences consumables and equipment manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China.
Thermo first entered the Chinese market 30 years ago, establishing a strong research & development, manufacturing and commercial infrastructure, and is one of the largest companies supplying life science research in the region. The reported investment of $20 million in the 12,000-square-metre building is set to expand the company’s global manufacturing capabilities within Asia, as Thermo work to meet increasing customer demand.
The facility manufactures plastic labware and consumables including sample preparation products and filterware, primarily serving the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the chemical, environmental and electronic industries.
Marc N. Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, commented: “China is one of our fastest-growing markets and has been a key contributor to our success. The Suzhou facility builds on our well-established presence in China and is an important next step as we closely align our depth of capabilities with China’s five-year plan to develop strategic industries, including pharmaceutical, healthcare and environmental.”
