Metrohm UK (Buckingham, UK) has developed a method for analyzing samples of beer and intermediates for anions and cations — alkali and alkaline earth metals — using ion chromatography and voltammetry. Ion chromatography is used in the brewing industry to monitor anion profiles in the quality control process. The anions in beer largely consist of impurities from the water used during the brewing process. They can affect the flavor of the final product and must be carefully monitored. The company’s IC systems can be used to analyze vodka samples without any sample preparation, and results reportedly are available in less than 10 min. Voltammetry is used to check for the presence of trace levels of metal impurities.

Using LC-MS/MS to Measure Testosterone in Dried Blood Spots
December 19th 2024Testosterone measurements are typically performed using serum or plasma, but this presents several logistical challenges, especially for sample collection, storage, and transport. In a recently published article, Yehudah Gruenstein of the University of Miami explored key insights gained from dried blood spot assay validation for testosterone measurement.
