The Pittcon programme committee has announced the call for papers for Pittcon 2011, which will be held at the Georgia World Congress Centre, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, 13–18 March 2011. The committee is requesting abstracts of original, previously unpublished findings in all aspects of instrumental analysis including but not limited to chromatography, molecular and atomic spectroscopy, electrochemistry, mass spectrometry, hand-held/portable instruments and lab-on-a-chip technology. The committee also seeks abstracts addressing novel applications of measurement science in areas such as nanotechnology, biomedicine, neurochemistry, genomics, forensics, informatics and quality assurance, as well as pharmaceutical, environmental, polymer and food sciences.
“Our 2011 technical programme will again deliver top quality content in the most relevant fields of chemical analysis,” said 2011 programme chair Mitch Johnson. “The programme will be tightly coordinated with conferee networking and short courses to provide the highest impact for conferees. Pittcon provides attendees with content ranging from the theoretical underpinnings of chemical measurement science through experimental practice, providing a perfect complement to the largest scientific instrument exposition in the world.”
Abstracts must be received by 13 August 2010 and can be submitted electronically via the technical programme link at

Best of the Week: Food Analysis, Chemical Migration in Plastic Bottles, STEM Researcher of the Year
December 20th 2024Top articles published this week include the launch of our “From Lab to Table” content series, a Q&A interview about using liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC–HRMS) to assess chemical hazards in plastic bottles, and a piece recognizing Brett Paull for being named Tasmanian STEM Researcher of the Year.
Using LC-MS/MS to Measure Testosterone in Dried Blood Spots
December 19th 2024Testosterone measurements are typically performed using serum or plasma, but this presents several logistical challenges, especially for sample collection, storage, and transport. In a recently published article, Yehudah Gruenstein of the University of Miami explored key insights gained from dried blood spot assay validation for testosterone measurement.
Determination of Pharmaceuticals by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS (Dec 2024)
December 19th 2024This application note demonstrates the use of a compact portable capillary liquid chromatograph, the Axcend Focus LC, coupled to an Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical drugs in model aqueous samples.
