Waters and Bruker announce collaboration
Waters Corporation (Milford, Massachusetts) and Bruker BioSciences Corporation (Billerica, Massachusetts) recently entered into a collaboration agreement to provide greater integration and connectivity between Waters' ACQUITY Ultra Performance LC (UPLC) system and Bruker's mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) products.
The collaboration will allow direct support of Waters ACQUITY UPLC system in Bruker's HyStar software thus unifying control and results management to combine these technologies. The products of both companies have many applications in the discovery, development, and manufacture of pharmaceuticals, processed foods, beverages, personal care products, and in environmental and food safety laboratories.
Millipore increases investments in international markets
Millipore Corporation (Billerica, Massachusetts) recently announced that it has increased its investment in personnel and facilities to support the growth of its business in emerging international markets such as China and India.
The company has appointed Geoff Ide as vice president of International Markets. Ide comes to Millipore with more than twenty years of experience in marketing and international general management. Grace opens center in Shanghai
W. R. Grace & Co. (Columbia, Maryland) recently announced that it will open a technical services laboratory in Shanghai, China, for its Grace Davison Discovery Sciences product group. The center will improve the company's ability to support life sciences R&D across Asia.
Technical personnel in the facility will primarily be responsible for working with Asia-based customers.
ACD/Labs, Applied Biosystems, and MDS SCIEX sign agreement
ACD/Labs (Toronto, Canada) announced that it has entered into a reseller's agreement with Applied Biosystems Group (Foster City, California) and MDS SCIEX (Toronto, Ontario). This agreement allows Applied Biosystems/MDS SCIEX to sell ACD/Labs' MS Manager, MS Fragmenter, and ChemSketch Software in combination with Applied Biosystems/MDS SCIEX mass spectrometry products worldwide. ACD/Labs will retain responsibility for customer training and technical support of the company's software.
The Next Frontier for Mass Spectrometry: Maximizing Ion Utilization
January 20th 2025In this podcast, Daniel DeBord, CTO of MOBILion Systems, describes a new high resolution mass spectrometry approach that promises to increase speed and sensitivity in omics applications. MOBILion recently introduced the PAMAF mode of operation, which stands for parallel accumulation with mobility aligned fragmentation. It substantially increases the fraction of ions used for mass spectrometry analysis by replacing the functionality of the quadrupole with high resolution ion mobility. Listen to learn more about this exciting new development.
Liquid Chromatography to Analyze Vitamin D Proteins in Psoriasis Patients
January 21st 2025Can a protein involved in delivering Vitamin D to target tissues have an altered serum profile in psoriasis patients with cardiovascular disease? Researchers used liquid chromatography (LC) to help find out.
The Complexity of Oligonucleotide Separations
January 9th 2025Peter Pellegrinelli, Applications Specialist at Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) explains the complexity of oligonucleotide separations due to the unique chemical properties of these molecules. Issues such as varying length, sequence complexity, and hydrophilic-hydrophobic characteristics make efficient separations difficult. Separation scientists are addressing these challenges by modifying mobile phase compositions, using varying ion-pairing reagents, and exploring alternative separation modes like HILIC and ion-exchange chromatography. Due to these complexities, AMT has introduced the HALO® OLIGO column, which offers high-resolution, fast separations through its innovative Fused-Core® technology and high pH stability. Alongside explaining the new column, Peter looks to the future of these separations and what is next to come.
