Upcoming Events
The 16th International Symposium on Separation Sciences — New Advancements in Chromatography and Capillary Electromigration Techniques — (16th ISSS) will provide a meeting point and discussion forum for scientists from academia and industry who are active in chromatography, electrophoresis and related techniques. The meeting will take place from 6–10 September 2010 at the Conference Halls of the National Research Council (CNR) Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
The scientific programme will cover practical and fundamental aspects of these techniques and their wide range of applications in academia and industry. It will comprise plenary lectures by distinguished scientists, oral presentations in parallel sessions and poster presentations. There will also be short podium presentations of posters by young scientists and an exhibition displaying the latest innovations in instrumentation by leading companies. An attractive social programme to help networking and discussion between separation scientists is also an important part of this event.
Former students and coworkers of Csaba Horváth will present their research in a special session dedicated to honour the memory of Csaba on the 80th anniversary of his birthday. The session will focus on how separation science has evolved from work initiated by this legendary figure in separation science.
The 16th ISSS is organized by the Interdivisional Group of Separation Sciences of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), under the Central European Group for Separation Science (CEGSS); the European Society for Separation Science (EuSSS); the Division of Analytical Chemistry and the Division of Chemistry for Environment and Cultural Heritage of SCI; and the Italian National Research Council (CNR).
Scientists, exhibitors and sponsors are invited to participate by submitting abstracts, reserving exhibition space and becoming a sponsor. Core topics include: Theoretical aspects and advances in instrumentation, column technology and detection methods; electromigration, multidimensional and hyphenated techniques; industrial applications, sample preparation, data analysis, life sciences, proteomics, metabolomics and biomarker discovery; clinical, pharmaceutical, environmental and food analysis; chiral compounds, natural and synthetic polymers.
The Scientific Committee of this event are Günther Bonn, Wolfgang Buchberger, Boguslaw Buszewski, Virginia Coman, Danilo Corradini (Chairman), Attila Felinger, Modest Gertsiuk, Pavel Jandera, Imre Klebovich, Aldo Laganà, Jozef Lehotay, Luigi Mondello, Nikola Šegudov, Corrado Sarzanini* (Co-chairman), Lucija Zupan and a distinguished list of leading chromatographers will be giving lectures at this event.

SPME GC-MS–Based Metabolomics to Determine Metabolite Profiles of Coffee
November 14th 2024Using a solid phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME GC-MS)-based metabolomics approach, a recent study by the School of Life Sciences and Technology at Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia) investigated the impact of environmental factors (including temperature, rainfall, and altitude) on volatile metabolite profiles of Robusta green coffee beans from West Java.
RP-HPLC Analysis of Polyphenols and Antioxidants in Dark Chocolate
November 13th 2024A recent study set out to assess the significance of geographical and varietal factors in the content of alkaloids, phenolic compounds, and the antioxidant capacity of chocolate samples. Filtered extracts were analyzed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) and spectrophotometric methods to determine individual phenolics and overall indexes of antioxidant and flavonoid content.
AI and GenAI Applications to Help Optimize Purification and Yield of Antibodies From Plasma
October 31st 2024Deriving antibodies from plasma products involves several steps, typically starting from the collection of plasma and ending with the purification of the desired antibodies. These are: plasma collection; plasma pooling; fractionation; antibody purification; concentration and formulation; quality control; and packaging and storage. This process results in a purified antibody product that can be used for therapeutic purposes, diagnostic tests, or research. Each step is critical to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of the final product. Applications of AI/GenAI in many of these steps can significantly help in the optimization of purification and yield of the desired antibodies. Some specific use-cases are: selecting and optimizing plasma units for optimized plasma pooling; GenAI solution for enterprise search on internal knowledge portal; analysing and optimizing production batch profitability, inventory, yields; monitoring production batch key performance indicators for outlier identification; monitoring production equipment to predict maintenance events; and reducing quality control laboratory testing turnaround time.
