ISCCE 2009
The 33rd International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography and Electrophoresis combined with the 6th GC×GC symposium will be held in the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Portland, Oregon on 17–21 May, 2009. These meetings have a long and successful history and are hosted alternatively in Europe and in the United States.
The Californian Separation Separation Science Society (CASSS) is organizing these premier meetings and invites researchers from both academia and industry, engineers, managers, students and technicians interested in all aspects of separation science in capillary formats including gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), electrochromatography and electrophoresis.
The 33rd ISCCE, held in tandem with the 6th GC×GC symposium, is one of the highlights of the chromatography calendar and will cover recent developments in new column technologies, high pressure/high temperature LC separations, capillary electrophoresis (CE), capillary electrochromatography (CEC) and microfluidics, as well as stationary phases for GC, multidimensional gas chromatography (GC–GC), multidimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC–GC–TOF MS), multidimensional techniques and miniaturization of GC.
A traditional GC–GC workshop introducing this rapidly growing field, giving basic instructions on how to proceed and highlighting the most recent developments in this area, will be held before the meetings. There will be ample time for discussions concerning both comprehensive GC separations and new column technologies for LC.
Parallel LC and GC sessions are also planned for young scientists, as well as poster sessions, exhibition of instruments and vendors' seminars. Proceedings of both symposia will be published in a special issue of Journal of Chromatography A.
In addition to a comprehensive programme, ISCCE 2009 will provide the opportunity for attendees to network at the conference and at two exciting social events. There will be an exhibitor/poster reception one night and a fabulous dinner (and tour) of the BridgePort Brewery — "Oregon's Oldest Craft Brewery". The exhibitor/poster reception is included in the price of registration. However, there will be a limited number of tickets available for the dinner at BridgePort Brewery. Go to the website (www.casss.org) for further details on these events.
Frantisek Svec, who organizes the conference, says "As well as other topics, these meetings are the only ones that focus on gas chromatography in its entirety and attract top scientists working in this field from all over the world. These meetings are also unique because they are a platform where ideas and developments achieved both in liquid and gas chromatography get cross-pollinated."
Abstract submission and registration for the symposium are currently open.

AI and GenAI Applications to Help Optimize Purification and Yield of Antibodies From Plasma
October 31st 2024Deriving antibodies from plasma products involves several steps, typically starting from the collection of plasma and ending with the purification of the desired antibodies. These are: plasma collection; plasma pooling; fractionation; antibody purification; concentration and formulation; quality control; and packaging and storage. This process results in a purified antibody product that can be used for therapeutic purposes, diagnostic tests, or research. Each step is critical to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of the final product. Applications of AI/GenAI in many of these steps can significantly help in the optimization of purification and yield of the desired antibodies. Some specific use-cases are: selecting and optimizing plasma units for optimized plasma pooling; GenAI solution for enterprise search on internal knowledge portal; analysing and optimizing production batch profitability, inventory, yields; monitoring production batch key performance indicators for outlier identification; monitoring production equipment to predict maintenance events; and reducing quality control laboratory testing turnaround time.
