LCGC North America
This month marks another major milestone for LCGC: 35 years of successfully publishing “solutions for separation scientists.” I would be remiss if I did not thank you, our readers, as well as the tireless staff that work so hard to bring you this publication every month. In kind, I would also like to thank our columnists for their helpful contributions and willingness to share their expertise with our audience. Our advertisers also deserve a round of applause for supporting our business and counting on us to deliver successful products across the industry.

In the past 35 years, we have seen publishing change quite a bit-from the age of print-only products to the advances of digital media. LCGC has been along for the entire ride and continues to offer innovative products such as our e-learning platform ChromAcademy, e-books, and special video projects on relevant topics throughout the year. No matter what the format, however, from our webcasts and special print supplements to our sponsored content and newsletters we always strive to provide trusted and valuable information to our audience. And even though digital formats continue to gain importance, print is still the favored medium of many readers, so we are innovating there too-which is why we are pleased to be launching the redesign of our print publication in this issue. We will also be launching a revamped website in the coming months-all with the audience in mind!
Being associated with LCGC for the past 25 years has been a wonderful experience, and I’ve seen the tremendous growth and strength in our business firsthand. My personal commitment has always been to keep LCGC as a leader at the forefront of analytical science. I think our record speaks for itself in doing so-see you at the next LCGC mile-marker!

The Next Frontier for Mass Spectrometry: Maximizing Ion Utilization
January 20th 2025In this podcast, Daniel DeBord, CTO of MOBILion Systems, describes a new high resolution mass spectrometry approach that promises to increase speed and sensitivity in omics applications. MOBILion recently introduced the PAMAF mode of operation, which stands for parallel accumulation with mobility aligned fragmentation. It substantially increases the fraction of ions used for mass spectrometry analysis by replacing the functionality of the quadrupole with high resolution ion mobility. Listen to learn more about this exciting new development.
Liquid Chromatography to Analyze Vitamin D Proteins in Psoriasis Patients
January 21st 2025Can a protein involved in delivering Vitamin D to target tissues have an altered serum profile in psoriasis patients with cardiovascular disease? Researchers used liquid chromatography (LC) to help find out.
The Complexity of Oligonucleotide Separations
January 9th 2025Peter Pellegrinelli, Applications Specialist at Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) explains the complexity of oligonucleotide separations due to the unique chemical properties of these molecules. Issues such as varying length, sequence complexity, and hydrophilic-hydrophobic characteristics make efficient separations difficult. Separation scientists are addressing these challenges by modifying mobile phase compositions, using varying ion-pairing reagents, and exploring alternative separation modes like HILIC and ion-exchange chromatography. Due to these complexities, AMT has introduced the HALO® OLIGO column, which offers high-resolution, fast separations through its innovative Fused-Core® technology and high pH stability. Alongside explaining the new column, Peter looks to the future of these separations and what is next to come.
