In addition, the company gained nearly 400 square meters of office space thanks to the renovation of a building adjacent to its Berlin headquarters.
Knauer, a worldwide producer of liquid chromatography (LC)-related laboratory systems, said it achieved a turnover of more than €40 million in 2023, reaching that mark for the second year in a row, according to a press release disseminated by the company on Jan. 9.
Although somewhat synonymous with profit, turnover (also referred to as net sales) represents pure income before accounting for expenses, as defined by Indeed.
Knauer cited new lab automation devices that are currently in development as a key reason for continued optimism in 2024.

Based in Berlin, Germany, Knauer has a staff of almost 200 employees. The company reports a gender pay gap of 0.3% in 2024, according to internal calculations, meaning that its “Equal Pay Day,” typically symbolizing how far into a new year a woman must work on top of the previous year’s employment to earn what a man was paid during that year, was already observed on Jan. 2.
In Germany, the national Equal Pay Day for 2024 is set for March 6. Knauer said in the press release that its female employees enjoyed a 1.3% wage advantage in 2023.
Owing to global trends, the company is also reducing its work week from 40 hours to 38, the equivalent of 12 fewer workdays per year.
And there will be more room for Knauer’s workers: At the end of 2023, a renovation was completed on a building that neighbors Knauer’s main facility, resulting in almost 400 more square meters of office space and the relocation of the marketing, human resources, accounting, and quality and environment departments as of Jan. 3, according to the release.
Knauer was named the most innovative medium-sized company in Germany by business magazine WirtschaftsWoche in both 2022 and 2023.
