BAC BV, a Dutch provider of antibody-based affinity purification technology, has announced a strategic collaboration with Life Technologies, a manufacturer of molecular diagnostic and research-use products, which will bring the range of BAC's CaptureSelect affinity ligand specificities to Life Technologies' Poros chromatography media and pre-packed HPLC columns.
According to the company this suite of products will provide a range of specificities and column formats for applications from discovery through to process monitoring.
"We are very excited to be able to provide a continuously evolving range of specificities and column formats that will allow more researchers to access the benefits of CaptureSelect technology", commented Laurens Sierkstra, CEO of BAC. "Scientists will be able to routinely use CaptureSelect ligands in formats that support QbD approaches for process development and monitoring."
The companies report that the collaboration will create a range of ready-to-use HPLC columns pre-packed with CaptureSelect affinity ligands immobilized on POROS chromatography media. Designed for the high pressures and flow-rates necessary to provide the real-time results for biopharmaceutical quality assurance needs, the companies claim that the selectivity of these columns will support Process Analytical Technology for almost any biopharmaceutical manufacturing process.

The Complexity of Oligonucleotide Separations
January 9th 2025Peter Pellegrinelli, Applications Specialist at Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) explains the complexity of oligonucleotide separations due to the unique chemical properties of these molecules. Issues such as varying length, sequence complexity, and hydrophilic-hydrophobic characteristics make efficient separations difficult. Separation scientists are addressing these challenges by modifying mobile phase compositions, using varying ion-pairing reagents, and exploring alternative separation modes like HILIC and ion-exchange chromatography. Due to these complexities, AMT has introduced the HALO® OLIGO column, which offers high-resolution, fast separations through its innovative Fused-Core® technology and high pH stability. Alongside explaining the new column, Peter looks to the future of these separations and what is next to come.
Metabolomics Analysis of Low Birth-Weight Infants Using UHPLC-MS/MS Following Lipid Emulsion
January 10th 2025A recent study aimed to directly compare the changes in serum metabolites among very low birth-rate (VLBW) infants following the administration of the soybean oil-based lipid emulsion and soybean oil, medium-chain triglycerides, olive oil, and fish oil (SMOF) lipid emulsion using untargeted metabolomics techniques.
