Growing environmental and health concerns about Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) have led to stricter and more extensive regulations of these substances in drinking water, ground water, soil and food over the past decade. PFASs are man-made chemicals used in a wide variety of commercial products like nonstick cookware, food packaging, paints, clothing, fire retardants and surfactants since the 1940’s. Due to their inert nature, PFASs are persistent and have been found to accumulate throughout the environmental ecosystem., Recent research has revealed PFAS’ toxicity to humans and wildlife which is driving stricter global regulations, monitoring and restricting their levels in food, water, air and soil. The United States EPA Method 537.1 is used for the determination of selected PFASs in drinking water by solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. This talk will discuss the utilization of the PerkinElmer QSight® Triple Quadrupole LC/MS/MS system to perform EPA Method 537.1 for the determination of PFAS in drinking water.
