In a January 27 press release, Waters Corporation announced a new benchtop enclosure for its Andrew+ Pipetting Robot. The Andrew+ Pod was released at the 2025 Society for Laboratory Automation & Screening (SLAS 2025) in San Diego, California. The new benchtop encloser can be equipped with interchangeable onboard air filtration options to protect samples from contamination or reduce user exposure to harmful chemical gases. The encloser also includes a hardware interlock, which improves safety by restricting access during operation.
Waters’ Andrew+ Pipetting Robot includes automated liquid handling using electronic pipettes and labware holders known as Dominos (1). It comes with the OneLab interface, which allows users to graphically design original pipetting protocols and allows remote monitoring of ongoing experiments. Both single and multichannel electronic pipettes are used. The Andrew+ Pod is widely available with several configurations. The core module can be purchased with an enclosed automated space or alongside one of two bundles containing onboard air-ventilation module, enabling true Vertical Laminar Flow (VLF) with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration, and a duct adaptor, or a ductless ABEK filter module to protect users from exposure to organic or inorganic gases and vapors.
The SLAS 2025 conference brings together researchers, technology providers, and leaders to discuss the latest technological advancements in laboratory automation, innovation, and analytics (2). The conference featured award ceremonies honoring research that explores laboratory technology, interactive experiences that discuss different scientific disciplines, and product releases from notable companies (3). Various companies were noted for releasing new products at the conference, including Automata’s LINQ Platform, Hamilton’s Microlab PuriFY system, and NanoTemper Technologies’ Dianthus uHTS affinity measurement platform (4,5).
Waters has manufactured analytical instruments and software, for chromatography, mass spectrometry, and thermal analysis for more than 65 years. The company serves experts in the life, materials, food, and environmental sciences industries. Employing approximately 7900 employees across 35 countries, the company works to supply over 100 countries with the latest in chromatographic technology (6). The company will have its Q4 2024 financial results conference call, which will occur February 12, 2025, at 8 AM EST (9).
On January 22, the company announced the launch of thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) Smart-Seal Pans from its TA Instruments Division. This self-opening sample container is designed to enable analysis of atmosphere-sensitive samples in laboratory benchtop-installed Discovery Series Thermogravimetric Analyzers (7). More recently, the company revealed an expansion of its MaxPeak Premier Reversed-Phase Column portfolio with MaxPeak Premier OBD Preparative Columns during the 29th Symposium on the Interface of Regulatory and Analytical Sciences for Biotechnology Health Products (WCBP 2025) in Washington, DC (8).

Next Generation Peak Fitting for Separations
December 11th 2024Separation scientists frequently encounter critical pairs that are difficult to separate in a complex mixture. To save time and expensive solvents, an effective alternative to conventional screening protocols or mathematical peak width reduction is called iterative curve fitting.
