Aflatoxins are a family of toxins made by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops, such as maize (corn), peanuts, and cottonseed.

While comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC×GC-MS) is a powerful analytical technique, the complexity and volume of data generated pose significant challenges for data processing and interpretation, limiting a broader adoption. To overcome this, a recent paper in Briefings in Bioinformatics presented GcDUO, an open-source software designed specifically for the processing and analysis of this data.

In this podcast, Daniel DeBord, CTO of MOBILion Systems, describes a new high resolution mass spectrometry approach that promises to increase speed and sensitivity in omics applications. MOBILion recently introduced the PAMAF mode of operation, which stands for parallel accumulation with mobility aligned fragmentation. It substantially increases the fraction of ions used for mass spectrometry analysis by replacing the functionality of the quadrupole with high resolution ion mobility. Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional ion-pair reversed phase liquid chromatography (IP-RPLC) methods for separating oligonucleotides (ON).
