At Pittcon 2023, LCGC spoke with Peter Schoenmakers of the University of Amsterdam, who is the winner of our 2023 Lifetime Achievement in Chromatography Award. This segment previews one of three Pittcon interviews that were conducted at the conference.
Schoenmakers spoke during the LCGC Award Symposium at Pittcon 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he delivered a talk titled “Challenges for (Liquid) Chromatography.”
Schoenmakers is best known for his work in liquid chromatography (LC), starting with the theory of gradient elution in reversed-phase (RP) chromatography and its optimization. His earliest work focused on a general theory of gradient elution LC. His 1978 paper, “Gradient selection in reversed-phase liquid chromatography,” is widely considered a foundational work and has been cited 300 times. His more recent work focused on the development of 2D-LC and 3D-LC when conducting polymer analysis.
