At Pittcon 2023, LCGC spoke with Emanuela Gionfriddo of the University of Toledo, who is the winner of our 2023 Emerging Leader in Chromatography Award. This segment previews one of three Pittcon interviews that were conducted at the conference.
Gionfriddo spoke during the LCGC Award Symposium at Pittcon 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she delivered a talk titled “Harnessing Microseparations Coupled to Chromatographic Techniques to Unveil Potential Exposure Pathways to Environmental Contaminants.”
Gionfriddo has made various important contributions to separation science over the past several years. Her work involved the implementation of alternative, green microseparation methodologies to extract small molecules from challenging biological and environmental samples, which has important implications for environmental monitoring of contaminants, exposomics studies in biological samples and living organisms, and targeted and untargeted metabolomics. She also has contributed in developing and testing biocompatible extraction phases for microextraction that have enabled the extraction of a broad range of molecules in complex media.
LCGC sat down with Gionfriddo to discuss the following topics:
