Event Overview:

Biopharmaceuticals offer great hope in treating medical conditions that are currently poorly served, at best, by traditional pharmaceuticals. The enhanced complexity and variability that come from the size of biopharmaceuticals, allied with the intricacy of the production process, mean chromatography is employed to a much greater extent during production and release testing. This webcast will provide details on why differing modes of chromatography are required in the research, preparation, and analysis of biopharmaceuticals and when they would be typically used.

Topics Covered:

  • Introduction to biopharmaceuticals
  • Protein characteristics of analytical interest
  • Use of various HPLC techniques to analyze proteins at intact (native), fragmented, peptide, glycan and amino acid levels including:

  • Reversed phase (RPLC)
  • Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)
  • Ion-exchange chromatography (IEX)
  • Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC)
  • Affinity chromatography
  • Advances in throughput, specificity, and accuracy for peptide mapping, charged variant analysis, aggregation, and titer analysis

Speaker:

Dr. Dawn Watson
CHROMacademy Product Manager
Element Materials Technology & MultiMedia Pharma Sciences, LLC

Dawn Watson, PhD, completed her PhD in synthetic inorganic chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, followed by postdoctoral research on small molecule reaction kinetics at Princeton University. Following several years working as a field-based sales representative for a major instrument and pipette manufacturer, she became a technical expert for CHROMacademy in 2013. Her role with CHROMacademy has allowed her to produce training content over a wide range of analytical techniques, develop skills in helping companies to implement and make training successful, and to always be learning something new about analytical science.
