This year, the American Oil Chemists Society will convene in Denver, Colorado, for a conference filled with exciting talks about the latest developments related to edible oils, fats, surfactants, and related materials.
From April 30–May 3, the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS) will be hosting their annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, at the Colorado Convention Center.
As an organization, AOCS brings together a community of scientists, technicians, nutritionists, researchers, and other industry professionals advancing the science and technology of edible oils, fats, proteins, surfactants, and related materials. AOCS is a leading international society with more than 2000 members around the world.
The AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo will feature an extensive technical program in 10 interest areas. More than 600 oral and poster presentations will be presented at this conference.
Sunday April 30th promises to be a busy and exciting opening day for the AOCS Annual Meeting. From 2:30 to 3:30 pm, there will be a Newcomers Reception taking place in Hall A. This event welcomes all attendees who are attending the AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo for the first time to meet the current and past Governing Board Members, leaders from AOCS, and current and past society winners.
At 5:30 pm, the Welcome Reception to the conference will take place, to kick off the annual meeting with food and drinks as conference attendees meet and mingle with old friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.
From 7:00 to 8:00 pm, there will be three networking events taking place. The AOCS’ three common interest groups—student, young professional, and professional educator—combine to host an evening reception for all conference attendees. It provides attendees with an opportunity to connect with fellow attendees in a fun and relaxed environment—to share ideas and discover solutions to problems that can help overcome several important challenges at work.

Analytical Challenges in Measuring Migration from Food Contact Materials
November 2nd 2015Food contact materials contain low molecular weight additives and processing aids which can migrate into foods leading to trace levels of contamination. Food safety is ensured through regulations, comprising compositional controls and migration limits, which present a significant analytical challenge to the food industry to ensure compliance and demonstrate due diligence. Of the various analytical approaches, LC-MS/MS has proved to be an essential tool in monitoring migration of target compounds into foods, and more sophisticated approaches such as LC-high resolution MS (Orbitrap) are being increasingly used for untargeted analysis to monitor non-intentionally added substances. This podcast will provide an overview to this area, illustrated with various applications showing current approaches being employed.
