ACS to Host Virtual Networking Session for Separation Scientists

The American Chemical Society (ACS), specifically the ACS Subdivision of Chromatography and Separations Chemistry, will be holding a virtual networking session on June 11, 2024, from 12–1 p.m. EST on career development for separation scientists.

According to the ACS, the workshop session, titled “Various Career Pathways for Aspiring Separation Scientists,” is meant to “enlighten the separation scientist about what are the various career pathways they can choose to pursue their dreams”. Experts from various fields, including pharmaceutical, instrumentation, petro-chemical, government labs, and academia, will share their insights and experiences with attendees.

During this session, participants can learn about what makes these fields unique and where separation scientists can find job opportunities. Other subjects will include what potential branches and teams can you join in industry/academia, what roles one should be looking for when applying for jobs, and what skills should you obtain during school that will benefit you in your career. Additionally, participants will be able to ask questions and connect with the different panelists.

The panelists come from different areas of analytical chemistry, including Kaitlin Grinias of GSK, Haleigh Boswell of Chevron, Christina Kelly of LECO Corporation, Imad A. Haidar Ahmad of Amgen, Kate Rimmer of NIST, and Amber Hupp of the College of the Holy Cross. The session itself will be one hour long, followed by a brief introduction of each panelist, with each panelist then providing a 5-minute overview of their respective field. The last 20 minutes of the session will be reserved for Q&A.
